Ken and copyright

Ken wrote Sonic and Knuckles as published by Archie Comics for over 13 years. So anything Sonic and Knuckles goes here!

Out of curiosity, Ken won't be making a show at this year's SDCC, right? Something tells me that certain types of fans wouldn't exactly greet him with open arms. :?

Well as long as he's not a Capcom Employee, I"m sure he'd have nothing to worry about.

It'd be awesome if Ken Penders showed up for the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas this August (10-14). I'll be there in full Cardassian attire. :D

Indeed, given that fans are known to undermine his contribution to said franchise from time-to-time. A shame, as he's done more official storylines/art than they probably will. ;)

Ken is not attending Comic-Con this year. He's got a hectic filming and editing schedule he is trying to juggle.

Well, the first Knuckles Archives volume is due to be released on Sept. 13, less than 2 weeks away. Any noteworthy updates regarding legal proceedings?

Believe it or don't, there's at least one comic book store in Australia (specifically NSW) that has already recieved several copies of the Archives. Went there yesterday where they informed me it was already sold out. :o

Not picking it up until/if Ken and everyone not under contract get their royalties. :P

As for the ongoing legal proceedings, recent videos of The Republic suggest that Ken is already in New York (unless it was filmed quite a while ago and we're only seeing it now).

Pretty sure most of the fans who frequent this message board have discovered by now that Ken's little hint of a "memorable Halloween" was indeed correct, with October 31 being the first day of destiny in his ongoing battle with Archie Comics.

He's probably not reading this (and I cannot blame him for doing so), but I do wish Ken the very best, and for him to give it his all. It's always heartwarming in a tale where the underdog defies all odds to come out triumphant in the end. :)

I hate to diffuse the hype, Paul, but the trial has been pushed back to January 30th.

I noticed a lot of people on TSSZ have really been giving you **** about this copyright thing, saying "You don't have a chance," and a whole bunch of other insults of which the variety is rather broad, Ken.

How would you answer these people and their insults about what you are doing? Because, quite frankly, if I was getting insulted like that, I would be exceptionally pissed.

I just want to put that to rest.

And what is that exactly supposed to mean? I have no clue who Sisyphus is, and Lucas has done as much good as bad for HIS Star Wars franchise.

Sisyphus is a king in Greek mythology that was punished for trickery by basicly pushing a giant boulder up a hill only to see it roll back down and repeat the process for all eternity.

You can read about him here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus

Also, I wouldn't get too worked up over what the commenters on TSSZ and people on other various forums are saying, jamey. Reading everything that these people have said shows me that most of them are either jumping to conlusions without reading/viewing and understanding all of the facts presented to the public so far, following the natural "wave of hate" the internet seems to bring out in people on any subject of contention (especially if they already have a negative preconcived notion of a person), or they are affraid of what something like this will do to their favorite comic book characters. Some of it is all of the above. This case is something unlike anything anyone has seen before, so of course a lot people don't understand what's going on and make outlandish comments, especially if they are young and don't know how business, intellectual property and copyright law works. These things are to be expected.

About what you said. George Lucas was a great ideas man, and as a kid, I loved reading Penders' work (and watching the Star wars prequels) for the ideas and potential they had in my imagination. But now I look back on them and see all the glaring flaws in the storytelling. Look, I may be prone to fits of internet nerd rage, but I try to be objective in things after I cool off. I loved concepts like Enerjak and the Dark Legion, but look back and see all the plot holes, the inconsistencies, the missed opportunities, etc.

Ken laid a fun foundation, I won't argue there, but the execution leaves a bit to be desired.
