Robotnik X2 = Trouble

Ken wrote Sonic and Knuckles as published by Archie Comics for over 13 years. So anything Sonic and Knuckles goes here!

Robotnik X2 = Trouble

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a big problem with this story, and is the primary reason why I dislike Karl Bollers as a writer; the plot makes no sense, the Freedom Fighters going along with the plan makes no sense, and having Robotnik come back for what's essentially a comic rendition of that one SatAM episode where Sonic moves in with Antoine and drives him insane seems like an insult to the character and his legacy.

My question is, why? Why did they bring Robotnik back for this one gag? I remember hearing a mandate from Sega that Robotnik returns in some capacity, but what was Karl thinking when he brought him back like this? Has he gone on record about why he chose this story to showcase Robotnik's return? And what was Sega's respones to it, if any?

I'm afraid the only person who could truthfully answer these questions is Karl. Anything anyone else says would just be supposition on their part.

Okay, fair enough, but can you at least confirm or deny the rumors of Sega's mandates for Robotnik to come back?

I honestly think the current continuity would be a lot less confusing if Karl had simply had Julian upload his mind into that satellite in the first place, instead of bringing back Robo-Robotnik and causing the whole "The current Robotnik is actually a different one from another dimension" plot tumor.

Yeah. I actually have an unfinished comic I drew where Robotnik comes back to life as a crazed madman bent on destroying Snivley and the Freedom Fighters. I think we can all say that we would rather have the old Robotnik back.

Which is why I'm confused as to why Karl decided to bring him back in this way. And whether or not the rumors that he did it to fulfill a mandate by Sega that the original Robotnik must return, in some fashion are true.
