Fan Submitted characters

I remember back in the day on Ken's board where basically, Ken had noted that Archie couldn't do a fan character contest because any characters that entered the book would then become property of SEGA. But, if that's so how come Ken's claiming the characters/stories on the grounds that he feels they are not SEGA's property????

Every competition which takes itself seriously requires a set of terms and conditions. In many cases, one rule states that whatever the entrant submits automatically becomes the property of Company X. There is no physical sending of paperwork, and you automatically agree when they recieve your contribution. Sounds unfair, but that's how business works.

So if (for example) Archie Comics do hold a character search contest, no doubt the winning entry will legally be handed over to them. This means that you will get nothing (a first credit if anything) every time he/she/it's used since Archie owns said character, and will continue to until their registration expires.

I've been talking about this with people, it seems that they will atually be putting in a caricature of the winner his/herself, and not a fancharacter. This led people to believe that the comic will be visiting the United Federation soon.
