KNUCKLES #26

After all the drama, pathos and grim seriousness of the last few issues, it was time for a complete departure, and what could be more different from all the previous heroic action than a romantic comedy?

With KNUCKLES: THE FIRST DATE, I decided to concentrate on the characters from a more down-to-earth perspective. While most of our readers may never encounter a Dark Legion in their everyday existence, they do go through teen angst, especially over that most scary of propositions: dating.

My biggest concern when I first started writing this was whether I could sustain interest and momentum over three issues without much if anything in the way of physical action. What I didn't want was three issues of talking heads. After seeing the finished results, my expectations were more than met. Hopefully, the readers will agree.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES Dept: With this issue, we introduce a back-up story for the first time during the run of the series. This first tale spotlights Mighty of the Chaotix, along with a number of other characters assured to surprise and amaze the readers. Since Manny Galan no longer had time to do the main story, he did pencil the back-up, along with the chapters seen in the next two issues. As for the main story, former Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles artist Chris Allan stepped in for this story arc, and turned in a piece of work that captured every emotion and nuance more often than I had a right to expect from a guest artist. Way to go, Chris! Of course, Andrew Pepoy contributed his usual stellar work on the inks, providing a finished look compatible with much of what had been seen previously throughout the series.
